Hackers and sponsored black hat workers are constantly attempting to identify new vulnerabilities in today's computer technology.

As the vulnerabilities are discovered the Black Ops community delivers this information to the Hackers that carefully craft their Malware to take advantage of these newly discovered vulnerabilities.

Since the Internet is a global community, communications can travel almost instantly to anywhere around the world.  As the word of a new Vulnerability (or exploit) is discovered, the Hackers have the ability to craft their Malware, at the same time.

This timeframe from discovery of a vulnerability, to the delivery of a specific attack by the Hackers is termed a 'Zero Day Exploit', becuase it happens almost immediately.  

The Zero day Exploit is a specific concern to the Security community (white hat operations), that are charged with protecting or detecting these vulnerabilities, and eliminating them.  Many Virus companies have been unable to deliver timely updates to detect and remove these issues. 

This is what makes the Zero day Exploit so critical to avoid in computer security.
