Windows XP SP3 Causing Router Crashes
"Windows XP SP3 has been named as the culprit causing home routers to go into a crash and reboot cycle.
One router maker has released firmware updates to fix the problem, but
has not yet revealed what is actually different about XP SP3's
networking stack or UPnP behaviour that causes the problem. Router
maker Billion Managing Director Raaj Menon said "as Microsoft plans to
make Windows XP SP3 an automatic upgrade this month, the number of
affected routers may increase significantly."
If you have Internet Routers made by manufacturer Billion, then you should review the information at Windows XP SP3 Crashes for more information. |
New Filter type - BMP

The need to filter and examine each file type is a significant exercise which you must adhere too. While our customer's enjoy an automatic filtering of ALL Emails and messages types, non-protected sites are seeing Trojans being injected into BMP file types (Windows Bit Map images). To further safeguard our customers, we have added the ability to exclude BMP images from Email attachments, or Zip files. To exclude BMP File types from your SpamZapper Email, simply sign to our Server Administrator, select the Email Domain, or Email address to configure, and then select the Configuration tab. You can add the BMP File Type by pressing the Ctrl key while clicking on the BMP word in the Filter Attachment Type and then selecting Update at the bottom of the page. You can also select to eliminate BMP file types from Zip File Attachments as well. When you select the Update button, all of your new emails will be scanned with the new settings.

Stop, Drop and Roll - part 2
These three steps are very useful for an emergency
situation; perhaps you learned them as a child.
That's right, they are meant to extinguish a fire on you. Our previous Newsletter described the thwarting of Internet based attacks, since this is a current trend, we decided to provide a follow-up with the results of a New customer.
We recently were contacted by a New customer which was in the middle of a persistent Denial of Service (DOS) attack on their Internet servers and connections. The activity was persistent, and the volume of the attack prevented them from sending/receiving email, as well as surfing on the Web. The customer was protected with the latest Firewalls, and network protection services. None of these stopped the attacks like the SpamZapper®. Our customer reported the same consistent reaction to our service, they are extremely thankful that it works so well.
You can read our customer's testimonial on our SpamZapper US site here. This is an actual examine of how the Active defense mitigates an active DOS (Denial of Service) or DDOS (Distribute Denial of Service). The only difference between these two attack types is the number of servers used to attack an Internet connection. As you can see the Attackers are thwarted and the actual communications continues without interruption.

Can your servers reduce the
effectiveness of the attack and make it a less desirable target as this depicts? Ours did.
We did not need to disconnect or deny services either. This attack was made during the week of
February 17th, 2008.
Our
servers were protected with our own Active Defense.
Battle tested, and production ready.
While Active Defense was able to mitigate the DOS Attack, it also permitted our own servers to operate at Normal servers loads, and permit our customers access to our servers, normally.
Does your Firewall or hosting service mitigate DOS Attacks as well? Call us today and let us protect your company. |

Are you doing business with gmail?
Recent attacks on the gmail servers have the spammers getting the upper hand on the gmail (and possibly other free email hosting servers). The Capcha (the graphic window which asks you to type the letters from the image) sequence has been broken, which permits the Hackers and Spammers instant access to millions of new email accounts.
We have two recommendations:
1. Do business with vendors that use their Company's Email (Domain name) address. Individuals that send you email from gmail, yahoo, msn, hotmail, comcast (to name a few) can be sending their email from anywhere in the world.
Just because it has your friends name on the message, can you be sure that it came from them?
2. Vendors that use their company's Email address are more likely to be sent from the sender, and will be more likely to have their message supported by the company that they sent it from.
3. The cost for Secure hosting services is cheaper than paying for insurance to protect from identity fraud.
4. The cost of email hosting is insignificant compared to the benefits of advertising your company with your own Domain Name. Using your own domain name will also pinpoint your business for your customers as well.
