Email Headers - reviewing your email

You've seen it before, an unwanted message, SPAM. However, you may not know that there is an underlying collection of information, which your email reader does not show you.

After you are able to view the Headers, please select them and then cut/paste them into an Email to Headers@No-JunkMail.com Normally, there's no need for you to examine this information, however, if you suspect that you are getting SPAM, and it is not being properly marked, this tutorial will teach you how to report the SPAM to us.

Each email message travels the internet using various servers which transport the email messages. Each of these servers put their mark in the message, which also permits us to perform additional investigation on the messages. Your mail reader will not display these headers to you (that is why you cannot see them), unless you instruct them to. We have put together a HOWTO view headers guide.

When you can view the Headers in your message, you can then select all of the headers (just the parts before your message starts), and then cut / paste them into a new email message to Headers@No-JunkMail.com.

Please include any information you can regarding the problem email as well. If you would like to send a copy to me as well, that would be fine. After we receive your email, we will analyze the Headers, and the Server Logs to determine the Best Method to filtering your issue.

Becuase the SpamZapper truely is the Swiss Army Knife for Email, we have included other items in this newsletter which we feel will assist you in using the SpamZapper.

Dear Internet User,

Everyone uses tools in our daily lives. Some of them are planting tools, some are carpentry tools, even tools for working in the workshop or on your automobile. The Internet is no different, there are many tools which provide access to different aspects on the Internet as well.

In this Newsletter, we will learn about many of the tools available for reviewing your email, or browsing the Internet.

  • New Feature for Filtering
  • SpamZapper-Logo

We have recently added a new function in our approach to filtering Email, and that is the From: component for use with Whitelisting and GreyListing.

Previously we implemented the White&Black Listing using the non-spoofable Return-Path header. Now we are enabling you to tell us whether you want to use the From: field from the Email message for either White or Black listing purposes.

Remember, the From: field is easily used to spoof the sender's information. If you have not had a problem in the past, you may want to review this on a few emails first.

Periodically I get calls saying "Hey I did not get any email!". Well, after reviewing the Server Logs, we soon determine exactly what happpened to the alleged Emails.

We have put the ability in your hands to review the email logs for your Domain, Email Address, or whatever messages you select. Our On-line Log Viewer is available in the SpamZapper module menu.

  • Enterprise Management

An easy method to test your filtering updates is to use the Quarantine. While you can ultimately control how long the messages stay in the queue, they will remain there a maximum of 5 days. This will give you pleanty of time to test new rule sets.

Now when you view a message you really want (captured either with a bad attachment, or by exceeding the SPAM threshold), you can resend, forward, view or delete messages with the on-line viewer.

  • Discard Virus messages
  • Web Hosting

Recent attacks have increased by more than 200% in the last month. Yes that's right, efforts by the spammers have more than doubled in the last 30 days!

We receommend that you select the Discard Email option for any email which is found to have a virus in it. While the Clean option may in fact remove the virus, we have seen some forwarding events which do not work as expected. Therefore, if a virus is found, we recommend that you Discard the message.
