GreyListing was initially developed
by
Evan
Harris as a good first line defense for
eliminating a fair amount of unwanted email. Evan's
GreyListing theory helped to eliminate more than 50%
of the unwanted Spam, but lacked flexibility needed
in most applications for most Internet Users,
Businesses or ISPs.
The SpamZapper utilizes GreyListing Technology,
for Unknown Email senders (from people or servers
which we have not talked to before). However, the
SpamZapper also identifies people that we do know, to
eliminate the delay. SpamZapper also permits the
administrator to enable or disable GreyListing as
well.
The domain administrator, or the user, can configure
the amount of GreyListing Technology that they
desire for their use. This is only available in the
SpamZapper.
If GreyListing is disabled, expect to receive more
Spam in your Email. In fact, you may find that some
of the Spam is from people that you know, but
chances are that they never sent it in the first
place. The only way to confirm the original sender
is to
expose
the full headers of the email message,
and examine the original sending mail servers. Most
of the time the original senders are compromised
themselves, and they are not even aware of it.
If the user sends email to a friend,
the SpamZapper learns of the wanted communication,
and permits immediate replies back.
Some filtering solutions permit Blacklisting, or
Whitelisting. Both of these a lists attempt to match a
Domain name, an IP Address or a User Address. However, since Spam has
become a Multi-Billion
dollar industry, all of these parameters are easily
spoofed (said to come from somewhere that they do
not), which has made Black and Whitelists almost
useless.
GreyListing has improved the simplistic use of black and
white lists, because it
eliminates the spoofing of the email from the three
components:
- Domain name
- IP Address
- Email Address
Now these three items are more difficult (but not
impossible) to duplicate or spoof to distribute
email. More importantly, these three items also
require that you receive the email that was
originally intended to be delivered to you. SpamZapper automates the
confirmation process of the
emails, and verifies that the sender is who they say
they are, to further validate, and reduce fraud in
your Email's InBox.
Now you can control the use of True Black, White and
Grey lists. If you want to verify or update your
SpamZapper
settings, you can also login to the
ServerAdministrator
and select the SpamZapper. Of course if you
have a hosted Domain on our Servers, you can also
access the Server Administrator at
